N2  - 20 years ago open thoracotomy was considered the standard approach for thoracic surgery. My journey in thoracic surgery started in 1999 at the University of Manitoba in Canada, where I learned to perform the full range of thoracic surgery using the open thoracotomy technique. At that time we performed multiportal VATS for pleural conditions only.
