The Present and Future of Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma, Spring Event of Italian Society of Thoracic Surgery (SICT) is going to take place in Grand Hotel Principe di Piemonte in Viareggio (IT) from May 12th to May 13th, 2017!
The modern approach to Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma cannot do without a total care of the patient, by a network of health care facilities and professionals, working in an integrated manner to achieve a more noticeable level of sharing and specialisation.
Today, however, patients with mesothelioma enter the health care system, but the course of treatment takes place on standard procedures, segmented at different stages, and without a global service that allows to offer to the patient and his family members in addition to the best care, improving the diagnostic process wait times, optimizing and monitoring of quality of care by providing the necessary moment of psychological support and continuity of approach, raising the patient and family to bureaucratic tasks and providing them with adequate knowledge and involvement also on the basis of expressed requests.
The objective of the conference is to treat the Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma from different points of view in a multidisciplinary context. To do this we need to consider epidemiological, medical surveillance, biological, diagnostic, therapeutic standards and advanced cures in a context that is not missing the various specialists who oversee this "rare cancer" which has substantial costs regarding social health. We would also like to create a close link between care and research, which will lead, in a national context, to advance knowledge aimed at more efficient treatments. This meeting will also serve the development of a system of collection and analysis of data, an essential requirement for future multicentre cooperation.
