Professor Patel has co-led the implementation of minimal access surgery, and fast-track/ERAS programme, plus Robotic Surgery within several units including the Section of Laparoscopy and Robotic Surgery at University of Rochester Medical Centre (URMC), New York and University Hospital North Norway.
He is an internationally recognised expert in teaching, training and performing minimal access surgery (both Robotic and Pure laparoscopy). He is known as an expert in new technologies including the use of training tools such as “Telestration – Telemedicine” to “Simulation – 3D printing”. These skills have led to Professor Patel being invited to speak or teach at the most influential meetings in the world (American Urological Association – AUA and Society American Gastrointestinal & Endoscopic Surgeons – SAGES)
Professor Patel has also been instrumental in training surgeons in several countries, and was the Founder Chairman, of Enhanced Recovery after surgery (Urology Group) on behalf of the ERAS society.
Professor Patel is passionate about using simulation training to help educate teams within the field of surgery, surgical techniques, new technologies and enhanced recovery.
Currently, he is Director of Laparoscopic and Robotic Urologic Surgery and full Professor of Urology directing high quality surgery, research and teaching.
