Surgical Technique on Thoracic Surgery
Port-access thoracoscopic anatomical left S3 segmentectomy
Abstract
We present our method for video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) segmentectomy based on three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) surgical simulation especially about the left S3 segmentectomy. A 71-year-old woman was referred to our hospital for her ground-glass opacity nodule (GGN) that increased in size up to 1.0 cm in the S3 of her left lung during the postoperative follow-up after S9,10 thoracoscopic segmentectomy for right lung lower lobe adenocarcinoma in our hospital 10 years ago. As the nodule was deeply located thoracoscopic anatomical left S3 segmentectomy was performed. The operative time was 152 min, and the blood loss was 4 mL. Air leakage was not observed and the chest tube was removed on postoperative day 1. The final diagnosis was a lepidic adenocarcinoma, and she lives well without recurrence in this 43-month period after the surgery. The surgical procedure is presented.
