Dr. Hak Jong Lee: provide help for success of surgery—charm of radiology

The 2nd International Conference of Asia Thoracoscopic Surgery Education Program (ATEP) was held successfully in Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Seoul, Korea from Dec. 4th to 5th, 2015. In the conference, Dr. Hak Jong Lee, from the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH), made a comprehensive introduction of the information system of SNUBH and also the ongoing Healthcare Innovation Park. This time, the Editorial Office of Journal of Visualized Surgery (JOVS) had the great honor to have an interview with Dr. Lee (Figure 1).

Dr. Hak Jong Lee, graduated with MD and PhD. degrees from Seoul National University, is professor at Seoul National University College of Medicine, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Professor at the Department of Nanoconvergence, Seoul National University, Graduate School of Convergence Science and Technology and Director, Medical device R&D Center, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. He was previously Visiting Professor at Stanford University. Dr. Lee is Radiology board certified by Korean Radiological Society.

Apart from sharing with us the feature of Healthcare Innovation Park as a connection of industry and academic, Dr. Lee also told us his perspective on a qualified radiologist—a qualified radiologist should be the one who has a clear idea on the disease processing and has a good commend of the mechanism of the medical devices.

When talking about the charm of radiology, Dr. Lee instantly said that as the first step of the diagnosis, radiology could provide important information to surgeons so that to help the success of surgery, which is the main reason that he likes about radiology (Figure 2).
