Management of chest wall deformities

An increasing number of patients with congenital chest wall deformities seek treatment for their conditions worldwide. A number of new treatments, both surgical and non-surgical, stemmed as a consequence of the increased demand. Unfortunately the complications have also increased, some of which with dramatic results.

In this special issue we sought to put together a synopsis of the current techniques, covering all aspect of chest wall practice and spanning from conventional open repair, to minimally invasive techniques and non-surgical alternatives. A section on complications and management was also added to give the less experienced practitioner an overview of potential pitfalls and how to avoid them. All articles have been written by leading practitioners in their field with a current a large practice in chest wall surgery. I hope that their experience will help to make the treatment of all patients better and safer.
