In 2025, many JOVS authors make outstanding contributions to our journal. Their articles published with us have received very well feedback in the field and stimulate a lot of discussions and new insights among the peers.

Hereby, we would like to highlight some of our outstanding authors who have been making immense efforts in their research fields, with a brief interview of their unique perspective and insightful view as authors.

Mario Giuffrida

Dr. Mario Giuffrida is a general surgeon with a special interest in oncological abdominal surgery (HPB, colorectal surgery, and upper GI) and abdominal wall surgery. He performs minimally invasive surgical procedures. He conducted research on general and emergency surgery. He participated in more than 130 papers, from retrospective studies to prospective and multicenter studies. Besides, he promoted big studies with more than 200 centers all over the world, like the Goodbye Hartmann Trial.

Dr. Giuffrida believes that scientific research is essential for enhancing medical knowledge among researchers, discovering improved methods for treating diseases, and increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of treatments.

“Discipline is the best quality for researchers. Research is not easy. Good studies require a long time to plan, enroll patients, and collect data. Discipline is mandatory for a good result,” says Dr. Giuffrida.
